Students at Potomac State College can now compete on a traveling intramural basketball team. “I think our new traveling team will be a great addition to the already existing opportunities at PSC.,” said Jason Ottley, who is initiating the program.
Demetrius Fuentes, a regular at late night basketball, is worried the new team might actually hinder intramurals. “Does that mean basketball is only available for those on the team? The point of intramurals is for everyone to participate,” said Fuentes. “We understand the gym is crowded, especially during the winter. This is why we’ve decided to lease the church gym down the street for our non-athlete students,” said William Letrent, dean of student life.
Giving the opportunity to pursue a sport to a larger number of students on campus could have a beneficial effect. “It’s just boring here sometimes; I don’t know what I’d do if I didn’t play a sport,” said sophomore and lacrosse player Shane Thompson, “I think it’s a good idea.”
The inaugural game is against the West Virginia University All Star Team.
PSC has been searching for ways to cure the boredom virus here on campus. A traveling basketball team could be a step in the right direction. Contact Jason Ottley at 304-788-7088 or visit the school calendar for more information.
